Facebook, the social networking website, is fast approaching its saturation point in Britain and its growth in the country has decreased over the last six months. Britain is currently second to the US with having the most Facebook members in the world with 25 million. Indonesia and Turkey follow. Facebook got its 500 millionth user in July but a study by web analytics firm, Hitwise, shows that the average time a Briton spends on the site went from 30 minutes in December 2009 to 27.36 minutes in July this year. However, it still the second most visited site in Britain, next to Google, and it accounts for one in every six webpages accessed in the country. Hitwise’s research director, Robin Goad, say’s the figures highlight Facebooks saturation point is looming. "Facebook''s market share of page views has trebled over the last five years, but growth (in Britain) has slowed significantly over the last six months. Last month, there was a slight decline in share, but this may well be down to seasonality - the August to September back-to-school/college/university period is significant for Facebook," he said. |
